What is the “Integral Way” and why is it important?

All of us aspire to have a balanced and complete life, where we are healthy, financially stable, have fulfilling personal relationships, good friendships, a job that we love and pays well, and perhaps other sources of joy and meaning. We want it all, without any exceptions or compromises. In other words, we seek a holistic and comprehensive life with no "buts".
  • I may have been feeling bad lately, but my career is going uphill.
  • I’m not fully realizing my talents, but I am a good mother.
  • I only have enough money for the essentials, but I am doing what I love.

What are your “buts”? Think about it.

How can you give your full attention to all aspects of your life? How do you avoid sacrificing anything? How do you ensure your physical, mental and spiritual health, and your general well-being?

All of these questions are answered by the practices of Integral Way.

It is important to pay attention to all aspects of yourself and your life. But that isn’t to say you should turn your life into segments: at one moment giving some attention to the body, and at another giving some to the spirit.

Yes, dedicating time to separate and specifics practices is important: one period for physical education and one for meditation, one with children and at work. Giving your undivided attention to something is not necessarily a bad thing.

However, it is also important to be able to spread your attention between different facets of a single whole. This is the essence of integral consciousness – it involves a multi-focus approach and a large amount of attention.

For instance, if you’re sitting at a table and using a computer, take a moment to pay attention to your posture. Ask yourself how you are sitting. Is your position comfortable? Are your shoulders relaxed or tense? Is your back straight and supported? How are your feet positioned, and is your lower back feeling okay?

See what a difference your posture make can make to your physical and mental state!

Or imagine if you are jogging in the street or at the gym. Where is your attention? What is the head doing? How about you try some dynamic meditation instead of cramming another audio book into your head? Are enjoying the views? What best fits with running or walking that would support the activity’s effect on the body and take you to the next level?

Overall, integrity is about creating a synergy. Synergy between your actions and their outcomes. When you do something, it’s important to consider how you can do it in a way that promotes healing and provides the most benefits for yourself.
